Branding

Branding is important, as previously stated. It is also a lot more than just creating a logo and setting it free in the wild. Depending on the clients needs, sometimes more thought is necessary to give a coherent look in building a company image.

Blondy & Blacky

In 2007, two companies decided to merge. One was a hair salon and the other a fashion retailer.

For this, they needed a new logotype.

The hair dresser was called “Dalbo Hårteam” which was deemed ‘too locality based’ for the business purposes, so instead I went for the use of “Blondy Fashion Imports” and deviced a name that would mirror both aspects of the business.

In the end I settled for the use of Peignot Bold and Rockswell as two contrasting fonts that really went well together. I love a good logotype where typography is involved, and not just strapped on to a fancy image. I needed fonts that were contrasting, one that were fancy, and one that was utilitarian  but still harmonised with each other. I wanted them to work in plain black, or in contrast, and work in small font-sizes as well on big signs.

As you can see on the experiments on the far left, I went in many different directions to finally settle down on more down to earth options.

In the end, the client ended up with a logotype that still kept in line with Blondy’s previous logo, was clear to use even in small news print and stood out amongst their competitors.
