Portfolio
Welcome to my portfolio. In these categories you will find all sorts of samples of my work. Most of it is recent, but some even dates back 10 years, and I have kept it in here because it is really good, OR that I learned an important lesson from all this.
The portfolio follows the pattern of [Screenshot] and [Description]. This is quite simply because screenshots lasts forever while live sites always changes - there are no such thing as a static website these days. As for description, I always try to list the brief I received as well what type of technology I used. To add my special touch, I sometimes also include special thoughts I had about the project in question.
So have a look around and see what I can do.
Web
I kinda stumbled into the web arena back in 1997. I was working as a graphic artist for a small advertising agency, and a client, Vida Timber wanted something of a web presence, because \"that internet thing seem to be really popular. All our clients have interweb and we are even thinking of getting e-postals for all employees\". That is how it went back in the day. So I started reading up on HTML (this was pre-CSS) and I learned what was needed, what was possible and how to publish it. My boss on the other hand was of the old-school of graphic design and was less than impressed by my translation of a 40 page brochure for the web. After repeatedly telling me to use the font Sabon in plain text (\"no an image will not cut it\") and me explaining to him that it was not physically possible to change the dimensions of a monitor at 640 by 480 to correspond to an A4 printed page, we settled for a compromise (\"Do it this way or I will find someone who will\") with a webpage with an embedded PDF that weighed in at 20 MB.
Of course, 95kbit modems as standard were still 6 months in the future, and local broadband was limited to a 2Mbit line shared by 400 people in a university experiment. Needless to say, the client was extremely thrilled - until they tried to showcase their site to some clients in Germany. When the page loaded after half an hour we were NOT asked to re-design the page. After that I swore to never compromise my professional integrity again.
The result of which, you will find in this section
Concepts
Many times projects are created, and later abandoned either because of lack of time, funding or interest. Still some great ideas can be salvaged from these experiences.
These are some of the projects that either never bore fruit or was abandoned by the client.
Illustrations
I started out as an illustrator back when I was about six years old. My rendition of the battle between the Emprie and the Rebellion in Star Wars - Return of the Jedi earned me a third place plus publication and honorable mention in Sweden\'s Star Wars Magazine. Plus I won a really cool laser blaster not available in shops in Sweden.
Later on when I found out that you can actually make a living on cartoons and illustrations at age 15 I realised that there was nothing I would rather do. I still draw to this day, even though I am creative as a graphic designer I still love to draw and make use of this talent in all mediums I got access to.
Before the Internet, publishing was limited to print in various forms. (Video was too expensive for most companies, and airtime was expensive so excuse this generalisation). Even though my main area of expertise lie in the online sphere these days, I still dabble on the print side. 13 years of experience is hard to erase and I still try to keep myself on the forefront of publishing tools. Plus it is nice to work in a medium were you got full control over images, presentation, fonts and typography.
Call me old-fashioned if you will, but I use the experience I gained in print to create the best web-solutions, so certainly it is not bad coming from this background
Brand development
All companies should know that there is a difference between using a logo and owning a brand. Brands are worth their weight in gold, and bring their own history, their own story and a look and feel that basically identify your company without a logo.
And yes, I have created quite a few successful ones.
Photo Manipulation
Everyone and their nephews play around in Photoshop these days. Some are masochists who prefer using Gimp, but when people say \"photoshopping\" it basically means to change the reality of a photo in one way or another. Everything from touching up photographs of models and make them skinnier than in real life, to populate an empty street with people, or simply make the impossible possible.
Yes, I have used Photoshop since 1992 and I would say I am very proficient in its use. Either to make things look better than in reality or just make a bad photo a whole lot better.
Adverts
Advertising, whether on the web or in print it deserves its own section. Many of my fellow designers seem to think of it as simply throwing together text and a logo in a confined space, but really it is so much more.
With the correct use of brand guidelines and thinking outside the box you can communicate effectively and reach your target audience with great success.
Without focus on the target group you can advertise all you want and as big as you want but never show any results.
